Honeywell added it to its Security business to strengthen perimeter-security and mission-critical detection capabilities.
FutureSmart (FutureSmart Systems) was a US home-networking / structured-wiring company (roughly $5 million in 2002 revenue). Honeywell acquired it in 2003 to build out its home and building controls offering in the then-emerging residential connectivity and home-networking market.
Gamewell, a 150-year-old privately held maker of commercial fire systems in Ashland, Massachusetts, was known for its distinctive red fire-alarm street boxes and for introducing the first wide-area network fire-reporting system. Honeywell's Fire Solutions Group acquired it to strengthen its commercial fire controls and detection position; Honeywell's SEC filing cited completing the Gamewell acquisition as a world leader in fire controls and fire detection technology.
Honeywell's Automation and Control Solutions unit acquired the assets of Sensotec Inc., a Columbus, Ohio supplier of pressure, force and other sensors and of telemetry-based systems for gathering and transmitting sensor data from rotating machinery. Sensotec became part of Honeywell's Sensing and Control unit, adding pressure sensing and wireless capabilities.
Ultrak was a provider of closed-circuit television (CCTV) and video-surveillance equipment and systems. Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions purchased Ultrak's CCTV business — assets and certain liabilities spanning the United States, Germany, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Australia, Singapore and the United Kingdom — with roughly 300 of Ultrak's employees joining Honeywell, which also licensed the Ultrak name. After the sale, Ultrak renamed itself American Building Control, Inc.
Honeywell's Automation and Control Solutions business acquired Invensys Sensor Systems, a global supplier of sensors and controls used in medical, office-automation, aerospace, HVAC, automotive, off-road-vehicle and consumer-appliance applications. The business, headquartered in Shelby, North Carolina, operated 13 manufacturing facilities across six countries and became part of Honeywell's Sensing and Control unit.
Honeywell acquired the aerospace manufacturing operations of Czech firm Mora Moravia in 2002, forming what is now Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc in Hlubocky-Marianske Udoli. The site makes static components for jet engines and auxiliary power units; only the aerospace division was taken by Honeywell (the domestic-appliance business later passed to Gorenje in 2004).
This transaction was not a conventional Honeywell acquisition but the merger that created the modern company. On December 1, 1999, a wholly owned subsidiary of AlliedSignal Inc. merged with and into Honeywell Inc., making Honeywell Inc. a subsidiary of AlliedSignal; at the effective time AlliedSignal renamed itself Honeywell International Inc. The combined company kept Honeywell Inc.'s well-known brand and adopted the HON ticker, so AlliedSignal was the legal acquirer/surviving entity while the Honeywell name and identity carried forward.
