Derek Kan was nominated to Fortinet's Board of Directors in April 2026 and elected at the company's 2026 Annual Meeting. From December 2020 until Deliverr's acquisition by Shopify in July 2022 he was Chief Business Officer of Deliverr, and he then served as Vice President of Business Operations at Shopify.

He previously held senior U.S. federal government roles, including Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (2019-2020) and Under Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation (2017-2019), and served as General Manager for Lyft in Southern California. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors. He holds a B.S. from USC, an M.S. in economic history from the London School of Economics, and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
