ADTRAN acquired Nokia Siemens Networks' fixed-line Broadband Access (BBA) business, including its broadband access intellectual property, technologies, established customer base and associated professional services and network-management solutions. ADTRAN acquired key active fiber access products, technologies and service relationships from subsidiaries of CommScope, Inc. The acquired lines included active EPON and 10G-EPON platforms with CableLabs DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) certification, and the Radio Frequency over Glass (RFoG) product line, including patented optical beat interference (OBI) mitigated versions.

ADTRAN acquired SmartRG, Inc., a Vancouver, Washington-based provider of carrier-class, open-source connected-home platforms and cloud services for broadband service providers. SmartRG brought cloud-management and analytics, Wi-Fi-enabled residential gateways and its SmartOS software platform. Its executive team and employees were retained for the transition.

SmartRG's executive team and employees were retained to support integration with ADTRAN's Mosaic platforms.
ADTRAN, Inc. and ADVA Optical Networking SE agreed to combine under a new Delaware holding company (Acorn HoldCo, Inc., renamed ADTRAN Holdings, Inc.). Each ADTRAN share converted into one holding-company share, and a public exchange offer offered 0.8244 holding-company shares per ADVA share. The all-stock combination created a global end-to-end fiber networking provider with roughly $1.2B in combined revenue, dual-listed on NASDAQ and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, with former ADTRAN holders owning ~54% and ADVA holders ~46%.

On the July 15, 2022 settlement date ADTRAN Holdings owned 33,957,538 ADVA bearer shares (65.43%). A domination and profit-and-loss transfer agreement (DPLTA) with ADVA was signed December 1, 2022 following ADVA shareholder approval.
