Ruth G. Shaw retired in 2007 from Duke Energy Corporation, an electricity and natural gas provider, and remained an Executive Advisor to the company until 2009. At Duke, she served as Group Executive for Public Policy and President, Duke Nuclear, from 2006 to 2007; President and Chief Executive Officer, Duke Power Company, from 2003 to 2006; Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer from 1997 to 2003; and in various other roles from 1992 to 1997. She was also President of The Duke Energy Foundation from 1994 to 2003.
Dr. Shaw has extensive corporate board experience, including as lead director at DTE Energy, and has served as a board committee chair at Dow, Inc., Wachovia, Southwire and others. She contributes a deep understanding of multiple industries; corporate governance; human resources management; executive compensation; information technology; communications and public relations; environment, health and safety management; sustainability; procurement; and diversity. She earned her bachelor's degree and M.A. from East Carolina University and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
