Petco acquired PupBox, a San Diego-based subscription service that ships monthly boxes of developmentally appropriate products to new puppy and dog parents. Each box is tailored to the pet's age and physical stage and pairs toys, treats, grooming tools and accessories with a training guide keyed to the puppy's changing needs. PupBox had been featured on Shark Tank before the deal. Co-founders Ben and Ariel Zvaifler and the wider PupBox team joined Petco as part of the transaction.

Petco acquired PetCoach, a digital services company whose website and app connect pet owners with experienced veterinary professionals for personalized advice on their pets' health and well-being. The platform combined convenient access, data and expert guidance for pet parents. As part of the deal, PetCoach co-founder and CEO Brock Weatherup joined Petco as Executive Vice President of Strategic Innovation and Digital Experience, tasked with driving the retailer's digital and innovation initiatives. Petco later extended the PetCoach brand into a physical store concept.
