Board & leadership
Helmy Eltoukhy is a co-founder of Guardant Health and has served as its CEO and a member of its Board since January 2013, and was appointed Chairperson of the Board and Co-CEO on August 5, 2021. Prior to co-founding the company, he held various positions at Illumina, Inc. from August 2008 to December 2012, including Senior Director of Advanced Technology Research, and in June 2007 co-founded Avantome Inc., serving as its CEO until its acquisition by Illumina in August 2008. He received his Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
AmirAli Talasaz is a co-founder of Guardant Health and served as Chairperson of its Board, President and Chief Operating Officer from January 2013 until August 2021, when he was appointed Co-CEO. Prior to co-founding the company, he held various positions at Illumina, Inc., including Senior Director of Diagnostics Research, and in March 2008 founded Auriphex Biosciences, Inc., whose technology was acquired by Illumina in 2009. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. in electrical engineering and an M.S. in management science and engineering from Stanford University.
Ian Clark has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since January 2017 and is its lead independent director, chairing the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He most recently served as CEO and a Board member of Genentech Inc. from January 2010 to December 2016, having spent 14 years at the company, and earlier spent 20 years in roles at Novartis, Sanofi, Ivax, and Searle. He currently serves on the boards of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Olema Pharmaceuticals, Kyverna Therapeutics, Corvus Pharmaceuticals, and BioMarin Pharmaceutical. Mr. Clark received a B.Sc. and an honorary doctorate in biological sciences from Southampton University.
Alex M. Azar II has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since September 2025 and serves on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He served as the 24th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2018 to 2021, and previously held leadership roles including President of Lilly USA, LLC from 2007 to 2017, Deputy Secretary of HHS from 2005 to 2007, and General Counsel of HHS from 2001 to 2005. He currently serves as an Adjunct Professor and Distinguished Executive-in-Residence at the University of Miami Herbert Business School and on several other boards, including as chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Council.
Vijaya Gadde has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since June 2020 and chairs the Compensation Committee. She served as Chief Legal Officer of Twitter, Inc. from February 2018 to October 2022 and as its Secretary from August 2013 to October 2022, having earlier been its General Counsel from 2013 to 2018; before Twitter she was Senior Director, Legal at Juniper Networks and an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Planet Labs PBC, the Board of Trustees of NYU Law School, and Mercy Corps. Ms. Gadde earned a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.S. from Cornell University.
Manuel Hidalgo Medina has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since July 2024 and serves on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He has served as Director of the GI Cancer Center and a Professor of Medicine at New York University since 2025, and previously was chief of the division of hematology and medical oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine from 2019 to 2025 and at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 2015 to 2019. Dr. Hidalgo currently serves on the Board of Directors of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Navarra in Spain and a Doctorate from the University Autonoma of Madrid.
Meghan Joyce has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since 2021 and serves on the Audit Committee and the Compensation Committee. The Board has determined that she is an independent director and an "audit committee financial expert" as defined by the SEC. She is not standing for re-election at the 2026 Annual Meeting, after which she will cease to serve as a director.
Steve Krognes has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since June 2022 and chairs the Audit Committee. He served as Chief Financial Officer of Denali Therapeutics Inc. from October 2015 to April 2022, and earlier as CFO and an Executive Committee member of Genentech, Inc. from April 2009 to September 2015 and as Head of Mergers & Acquisitions at Roche Holding AG from January 2004 to April 2009. He currently serves on the boards of Denali Therapeutics, argenx SE, and Pliant Therapeutics. Mr. Krognes received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and his B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Roberto Mignone has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since October 2024 and serves on the Audit Committee. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Bridger Management LLC, an investment management firm founded in 2000 with a focus on the healthcare sector, and previously co-founded and was a partner of Blue Ridge Capital LLC from 1996 to 2000. Mr. Mignone is a member of the Board of Directors at Teva Pharmaceuticals and co-Vice Chair at the New York University Langone Medical Center. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Classics from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Myrtle Potter has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since October 2021 and serves on the Audit Committee and the Compensation Committee. She most recently served as President, CEO and Chairperson of Sumitomo Pharma America, Inc. from July 2023 to April 2024 and as CEO of Sumitovant Biopharma, Inc. from December 2019 to July 2023, and earlier was Chief Operating Officer and then President, Commercial Operations and Executive Vice President of Genentech, Inc. from 2000 to 2005. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Opentrons Labworks, Inc. Ms. Potter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Chicago.
Musa Tariq has served as a member of the Guardant Health Board since March 2023 and serves on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He is the Founder of Science x Story, a brand-driven growth consultancy, and previously served as Chief Marketing Officer of GoFundMe from January 2021 to June 2023, Global Head of Marketing for Airbnb Experiences from September 2018 to December 2020, and Chief Brand Officer at Ford Motor Company from January 2017 to March 2018. He has also held marketing leadership roles at Apple, Nike, and Burberry. Mr. Tariq has a B.S. in Geography and Economics from the London School of Economics.
Michael Bell has served as Guardant Health's Chief Financial Officer since January 2021. He previously served as CFO of CareDx, Inc. from April 2017 to December 2020, CFO of Metabiota, Inc. from January 2016 to March 2017, and CFO of Singulex, Inc. from May 2012 to January 2016, and earlier held leadership positions at Novartis, including CFO of Novartis Diagnostics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Computing from the University of Leicester and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
Darya Chudova has served as Guardant Health's Chief Technology Officer since May 2023 and has been with the company since August 2015, most recently as Senior Vice President of Technology. In her roles she led technical development of the Guardant360 Liquid and CDx products and the development of the company's Shield technology for blood-based colorectal cancer screening. Prior to Guardant, she developed non-invasive prenatal testing at Illumina, Inc. from March 2013 to August 2015 and worked at Veracyte, Inc. from 2008 to 2013. Dr. Chudova holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine.
Craig Eagle has served as Guardant Health's Chief Medical Officer since April 2021. Prior to joining the company he served as Vice President of Medical Affairs Oncology for Genentech from 2019 to 2021, and earlier held several U.S. and international positions at Pfizer from 2009 to 2019, most recently as General Manager of Pfizer Oncology in the United Kingdom from 2016 to 2019. Dr. Eagle graduated from medical school at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia.
Christopher Freeman has served as Guardant Health's Chief Commercial Officer since June 2021. He most recently served as Vice President of the HIV Business Unit at Gilead Sciences, Inc. from January 2020 to June 2021, and earlier worked at Elan Pharmaceuticals from 2008 to 2011 and at Genentech from 2001 to 2008, where he led marketing for the oncology product Rituxan and for Xolair. Mr. Freeman served in the U.S. Army for five years and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, holds a Master of Administration from Central Michigan University, and a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California.
Kumud Kalia has served as Guardant Health's Chief Information Officer since January 2020. He most recently served as Chief Information and Technology Officer and in other executive roles at Cylance, Inc. from March 2018 to June 2019, and previously was Chief Information Officer at Akamai Technologies from October 2011 to February 2018 and held senior roles at Direct Energy, Qwest Communications International, and Dresdner Group. Mr. Kalia holds a Master's degree in Information and Cyber Security from the University of California, Berkeley, and an honors degree in Electronic Engineering from Bangor University.
Terilyn Juarez Monroe has served as Guardant Health's Chief People Officer since January 2024. She most recently served as Chief People Officer at Bonterra from November 2021 to September 2023, and previously was Chief People Officer, SVP People & Places at Varian from October 2017 to April 2021 and Chief People & Culture Officer, SVP Human Resources at Acxiom from 2015 to 2017. She earlier served as Chief Diversity Officer and in various Human Resources roles at Intuit from 2002 to 2015. Ms. Monroe holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from San Jose State University.
John Saia has served as Guardant Health's Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary since April 2022, and prior to that as its Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from May 2020 to April 2022. Before joining Guardant Health he served as SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of WageWorks, Inc. until its acquisition by HealthEquity, Inc. in August 2019, as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of AcelRx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from April 2018 to January 2019, and spent more than a decade in legal and compliance leadership roles at McKesson Corporation. Mr. Saia graduated cum laude from Santa Clara University and holds a Juris Doctorate from The George Washington School of Law.
