Square acquired Crew, a frontline employee platform used to consolidate and streamline the day-to-day operations of hourly workforces. The deal added a workplace messaging and communication tool to Square's existing Team Management labor tools, giving sellers an integrated way to message, schedule, track, and pay their team members. Square positioned the addition as a way to accelerate its labor-management roadmap and better serve larger, more complex sellers.
Square acquired certain assets of Zesty, a corporate catering platform focused on helping companies feed employees healthier, higher-quality food. The assets were folded into Caviar, Square's food-ordering platform, to scale its corporate ordering business, Caviar for Teams. Zesty added menu-planning tools and algorithms, order management, white-glove catering logistics, and nutrition and allergen customization.
Square acquired Dessa, a Toronto-based company building machine learning applications aimed at real-world business challenges. The Dessa team of engineers was brought in to bolster Square's machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities, with the team continuing to operate from Toronto. Dessa was well known for its work on deepfake detection, which it had open-sourced.
Square acquired Stitch Labs, an operations management platform for growing commerce brands with tools for inventory and order management, channel management, and fulfillment. The team joined Square's Seller organization. Stitch Labs stopped taking new customers, continued serving existing customers into Spring 2021, and its products were slated to be sunset so the team could focus on building Square tools.
Square acquired GoParrot, an all-in-one digital ordering and marketing platform for restaurants that connects merchants with customers through omnichannel software. A long-time Square partner already integrated with Square's ecosystem, GoParrot lets sellers offer a customizable white-label ordering app with personalization, loyalty tracking, and multi-stage automated marketing campaigns. Its solutions were available in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
Square acquired Caviar, a fast-growing food-delivery company that lets customers order delivery from top-rated local restaurants that do not otherwise offer delivery. For restaurants, Caviar served as an affordable alternative to an in-house delivery operation and drove incremental revenue. At the time of the deal Caviar operated across markets including San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C.
Square acquired Kili Technology, a company that developed silicon, electronics, and software to simplify and optimize payment processing. The acquisition supported Square's effort to build thinner, smarter, more accurate and reliable payments hardware as the landscape shifted toward EMV and NFC. The Kili team continued operations in Toronto, which became Square's second office in Canada.
Square acquired certain assets of Entrees On-Trays, a restaurant delivery service that had served the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex since 1986, to expand its Caviar food-ordering platform in the region. The deal brought dozens of popular local restaurants onto Caviar and continued Entrees On-Trays' corporate catering relationships through Caviar for Teams. It broadened Caviar's presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, where it had launched in spring 2015.
Square acquired Verse, a Spain-based peer-to-peer payments app that lets customers instantly send and receive money from friends and family free of charge. Verse joined the Cash App organization at Square, with the two teams sharing technology and resources. Verse was to continue operating as an independent business from its own offices, with the initial priority being continued growth in Europe.
Square acquired Evenly, the maker of a peer-to-peer payments app that let people split bills and request money from friends. Square highlighted the Evenly team's emphasis on simple, human-centered design, and after the deal the team was redirected to work on seller initiatives rather than a standalone consumer product. The Evenly app was wound down, with remaining user balances returned and accounts closed shortly after the announcement.

Square acquired Viewfinder, a photo-sharing application known for pairing elegant design with sophisticated engineering. The Viewfinder team joined Square's New York office as senior members of its East Coast engineering group, working on seller initiatives, and Square framed the deal as part of a plan to significantly expand its engineering presence in the city. The Viewfinder codebase was later open-sourced.

Square acquired BookFresh, a provider of online appointment-scheduling software that let local service businesses accept self-service bookings from new and existing customers, with tools such as calendar sync, schedule management, and automated email and text reminders. The acquisition extended Square's seller toolkit beyond payments into scheduling, and the capability later informed Square's own appointments offering.

Square acquired Fastbite, a San Francisco food-delivery startup built around low-cost, quick-turn meals delivered in roughly ten minutes from a small daily menu. Square folded the team and concept into Caviar, its food-ordering platform, relaunching the service as Caviar Fastbite for downtown San Francisco and later expanding it to New York. The standalone Fastbite app was wound down as the service moved inside Caviar.
Square acquired the team behind Framed Data, a startup whose machine-learning technology helped businesses forecast customer engagement and prescribe marketing actions. The data-science team joined Square Capital, Square's financing arm, to build models and algorithms supporting lending decisions. Framed Data's own product was wound down following the acqui-hire.

Square acquired Eloquent Labs, a conversational-AI startup founded by natural-language-processing researchers whose technology answered customer questions and handled common support interactions. The team joined Square to advance messaging across its ecosystem, and their work underpinned Square Assistant, an AI-powered automated messaging tool that responds to customers over SMS for appointments and similar interactions.

Afterpay is a pioneering global 'buy now, pay later' (BNPL) platform that lets retail merchants offer customers the ability to buy goods and services and split purchases across four interest-free installments. At the end of 2021 Afterpay had more than 122,000 annual active merchants and more than 19 million annual active consumers, and delivered $19.7 billion in GMV for full-year 2021, up 74% year over year. approximately US$29 billion implied at announcement (all-stock); final accounting consideration of $13.9 billion (113,387,895 Class A shares) at close.

Credit Karma Tax is a free, mobile-first tax filing product for individuals. Acquired in the fourth quarter of 2020, it added a tax filing product to Cash App's ecosystem; Block relaunched it as Cash App Taxes in the first quarter of 2021.

Weebly is a technology company that offers customers website hosting and domain name registration solutions, giving sellers tools to build a professional website or online store with integrated shipping, inventory management, and marketing. At the time of acquisition Weebly had millions of customers and more than 625,000 paid subscribers. $272.5 million total consideration ($132.4 million cash plus 2,418,271 Class A shares valued at $140.1 million).
On May 31, 2018, the Company acquired 100% of the outstanding shares of Weebly, a technology company that offers customers website hosting and domain name registration solutions. Square completed the acquisition of certain assets of Main Line Delivery, a service that let diners order delivery from popular restaurants in the Main Line region of Philadelphia, to expand its Caviar platform in that market. Main Line Delivery had spent roughly eight years building relationships with area restaurants and a focus on hospitality and service. The deal broadened Caviar's presence in Philadelphia, where it had grown from about 40 to over 300 partner restaurants.
