The Acquisition Playbook.

Three patterns run through Acme United's acquisitions — what it looks for, how it pays, and how it folds in what it buys.

01
Acquisition criteria
Roll up first aid & safety, one accretive tuck-in at a time.
Nine of Acme's ten disclosed acquisitions land in first aid, safety and emergency-response products, and management repeatedly frames each as accretive within the first full year. Pac-Kit (2011), First Aid Only (2014), First Aid Central (2020), Med-Nap (2020), Hawktree (2023), Elite First Aid (2024) and My Medic (2026) built a first aid platform that management said would approach $40 million in combined first aid, safety and OTC revenue as early as 2014.

02
Capital deployment
Buy assets for cash, keep the operations in place.
Every deal is structured as an asset purchase funded from Acme's bank facility, and Johnsen consistently states an intent to retain the acquired operation's location and team — DMT in Massachusetts, Spill Magic in California and Tennessee, and My Medic in Utah. The playbook favors low-integration-risk carve-outs of inventory, brands and equipment over full corporate mergers.

03
Integration approach
Vertically integrate and extend adjacent categories.
Med-Nap brought FDA-registered antiseptic-wipe manufacturing in-house for the kits Acme already sold, while DMT and Clauss extended the Westcott cutting-tool franchise into premium sharpening. Canadian deals (First Aid Central, Hawktree's Canadian Red Cross license) and the direct-to-consumer reach of My Medic show Acme buying distribution and channels it did not previously own.
