Thomas E. Skains is Truist's Lead Independent Director and Chair of the Compensation and Human Capital Committee. He brings extensive experience leading a large, highly regulated enterprise and providing independent board oversight.
Skains is the former Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Piedmont Natural Gas Company, Inc. (now part of Duke Energy Corporation), a major Southeastern natural gas utility, where he served as Chairman and CEO from 2003 until his retirement in 2016. Earlier he held roles of increasing responsibility at Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation.
