During his 25-year tenure with the law firm King & Spalding LLP he served as Chair of the firm's FDA and Life Sciences Practice and on its Policy and Compensation Committees, representing medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

He earlier served in the FDA Chief Counsel's Office as Associate Chief Counsel for Drugs & Biologics and Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement from 1975 to 1985, and holds a mechanical engineering degree from Lafayette College and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
