William E. Conway, Jr. is a Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Carlyle's Board of Directors, appointed to the Board effective July 18, 2011. He has played an integral role in the firm's growth since co-founding it in 1987, developing a deeply informed understanding of the business over nearly four decades.

Previously, Mr. Conway served as Carlyle's Interim Chief Executive Officer, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer. Prior to forming Carlyle in 1987, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of MCI Communications Corporation, and was its Vice President and Treasurer from 1981 to 1984. He received his BA from Dartmouth College and his MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
