Harvey M. Schwartz is the Chief Executive Officer of Carlyle and a member of the Board of Directors, serving in both capacities since February 15, 2023 and based in New York. On February 6, 2023, Carlyle's Board appointed him CEO effective February 15, 2023, at which point Co-Founder Bill Conway stepped down as Interim CEO while remaining Co-Chairman of the Board.
He worked at Goldman Sachs from 1997 to 2018, where his last position was President and Co-Chief Operating Officer and he held numerous senior leadership roles including Chief Financial Officer and Global Co-Head of the Securities Division. He started his career at J.B. Hanauer & Co., then moved to First Interregional Equity Corporation, and in 1989 joined Citigroup, where he worked in the firm's credit training program and developed a specialty in structuring commodity derivatives. He earned his BA from Rutgers University and his MBA from Columbia University.
