Janaki Akella Director

Janaki Akella has served on the Akamai Board since 2025 and sits on the Audit and Finance Committees. She held Digital Transformation leadership roles at Google LLC from 2017 to 2023, most recently as Chief of Business Operations, Director, Ads Privacy and Safety (2020-2023), and spent 1999 to 2016 at McKinsey & Company, most recently as a principal. She currently serves on the boards of Southern Company, SLM Corporation (Sallie Mae) and the enterprise AI company Fractal.ai, bringing deep expertise in cloud computing, cybersecurity, AI and strategy.

Sharon Bowen Director

Sharon Bowen has served on the Akamai Board since 2021 and sits on the Audit and ESG Committees. She was a Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission from June 2014 until her retirement in September 2017 and was a Senior Associate and Partner at the law firm Latham & Watkins from 1988 to May 2014. She currently serves as Chair of the New York Stock Exchange (a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange, Inc.), on the board of Intercontinental Exchange, Inc., and on the board of Neuberger Berman Group.

Bas Burger Director

Tom Leighton Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai in 1998 and has served as Chief Executive Officer since January 2013, having previously been the company's Chief Scientist from 1998 to 2012. He has been a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1982 (currently on leave) and is a co-founder and key developer of the software underlying Akamai's platform. From 2003 to 2005 he chaired the Presidential Information Technology Advisory Committee on Cybersecurity, and he has served on Akamai's Board since 1998.

Edward McGowan Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Edward (Ed) McGowan became Akamai's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in March 2019 and took on added responsibility for the global IT organization in December 2021. He joined Akamai in 2000 and has held numerous roles, including Senior Vice President, Finance (2018-2019), Senior Vice President, Global Sales for the Media & Carrier Division (2017-2018) and Vice President, Global Carrier Strategy & Sales (2013-2016). Before Akamai he was Controller for iCast Corporation, a CMGI company, and began his career in public accounting at Arthur Andersen and PwC. A certified public accountant, he also serves on the board of WinVest Acquisition Corp.

Aaron Ahola Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Aaron Ahola was named Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in May 2019, having served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from October 2017. He joined Akamai in April 2000 and has held a variety of positions, including Vice President and Deputy General Counsel (2011-2017) and Chief Privacy Officer (2008-2017). Before Akamai he was a corporate and M&A attorney at Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York. He currently serves on the Nasdaq Listing and Hearing Review Council.

Robert Blumofe Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Robert Blumofe became Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer in March 2021. He previously served as Executive Vice President, Platform and General Manager of the Enterprise Division (2016-2021) and as Executive Vice President - Platform from January 2013. He joined Akamai in 1999 and held a variety of roles, including leading the performance team and developing the Akamai Intelligent Edge Platform. Before Akamai he was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin and has been widely published in algorithms and systems for highly distributed and parallel computing.

Paul Joseph Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Services

Paul Joseph became Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Services in March 2021 and gained oversight of the Global Services organization in December 2021.
