Prolexic, a privately held DDoS-mitigation provider based in Hollywood, Florida, ran cloud-based scrubbing centers that detect and absorb distributed denial-of-service attacks aimed at data centers and enterprise IP applications. Akamai announced the deal on December 2, 2013 and completed it on February 18, 2014; the closing 8-K reported net cash consideration of about $337.1 million after adjustments against the roughly $370 million announced price.

Asavie, a privately funded company headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, operated a global platform for managing the security, performance and access policies of mobile and IoT devices. Guardicore, based in Tel Aviv, Israel, built a micro-segmentation platform that limits internal network communication to only authorized application flows, reducing the spread of malware and ransomware across the data center and cloud. Akamai announced the deal on September 29, 2021 at approximately $600 million; its FY2021/FY2022 Form 10-K reported final consideration of about $610.7 million in cash. The technology now underpins the Akamai Guardicore Platform.

Linode, a developer-focused infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider founded in 2002 by Christopher Aker, offered simple, affordable cloud compute. Akamai announced the acquisition on February 15, 2022 for approximately $900 million net of cash acquired and completed it in March 2022; the FY2022 Form 10-K reported final consideration of about $898.5 million in cash. The deal launched Akamai's expansion from edge delivery into full cloud computing.

Neosec, Inc. provided an API-security platform that discovers and audits APIs and monitors API activity using data and behavioral analytics to detect threats and abuse. Noname Security (Noname Gate Ltd.) was one of the top API-security vendors, offering discovery, posture management and runtime protection for APIs. Akamai completed the acquisition in June 2024 for $452.3 million, its largest security deal since Guardicore, enhancing the Akamai API Security solution amid surging enterprise API usage. In August 2023 Akamai acquired certain customer contracts from StackPath, LLC, a content-delivery-network operator, for approximately $51.2 million. Substantially all of the purchase price related to the acquired customer relationships, which Akamai transitioned onto its own delivery platform.
