G. Staley Cates joined the Affiliated Managers Group Board of Directors as an independent director in April 2026 and serves on the Audit Committee, where he qualifies as an audit committee financial expert.
He spent nearly four decades at Southeastern Asset Management, Inc., an independent global investment management firm he joined in 1986, serving as President from 1989 through 2015 and as Vice Chairman from 2015 through 2024, and acting as Co-Portfolio Manager for the Longleaf Partners family of mutual and UCITS funds from 1989 through 2024. He received a B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
