The Acquisition Playbook.

Three patterns run through A10 Networks's acquisitions — what it looks for, how it pays, and how it folds in what it buys.

01
Acquisition criteria
Buy technology, not scale.
A10 has made only two disclosed acquisitions in its public history, both small asset purchases of a specific technology and team rather than scale-driven consolidation. Appcito supplied the cloud-native engine for Lightning ADS; ThreatX Protect supplied a WAAP product for the A10 Defend line.
AppcitoThreatX Protect (business of ThreatX, Inc.)
02
Capital deployment
Fill a portfolio gap adjacent to the core.
Each deal extended A10 into an adjacent capability its own R&D had not yet delivered - cloud-native application delivery in 2016 and web-application/API security in 2025 - while staying within its application-networking and security franchise.

03
Integration approach
Absorb and rebrand under A10's own product lines.
Rather than run acquisitions as standalone units, A10 folded each into its portfolio and relaunched it under an A10 brand: Appcito's technology became Lightning ADS, and ThreatX Protect became A10 Defend ThreatX Protect.
