The rationale that repeats.

Three patterns show up across IDEX's deal book — what the team buys, how it pays, and how it integrates. The patterns are the throughline; the individual deals below are the evidence.

01
Acquisition criteria

Platform-then-tuck-in compounding.

IDEX repeatedly buys a sizable platform and then bolts smaller businesses onto it over many years. Hale Products (1994) anchored fire & rescue, later joined by Class 1, Akron Brass and AWG Fittings; ADS (2008) anchored water monitoring, later joined by iPEK, IETG and Nexsight; CVI Melles Griot (2011) anchored optics & photonics, later joined by Semrock, Advanced Thin Films, Precision Photonics and Iridian.

02
Capital deployment

All-cash, niche, engineered-products focus.

Nearly every IDEX deal is funded with cash on hand or revolver borrowings and targets a market-leading maker of highly engineered components — pumps, valves, seals, flow meters and optical filters — rather than broad platforms. Management describes targets as a 'leader' or 'global leader' in a defensible niche, paying for proprietary technology and pricing power across fluidics, metering and scientific instrumentation.

03
Integration approach

Migration up the value chain toward science and semiconductors.

Early IDEX deals centered on industrial pumps and dispensing; the recent cadence (STC Material Solutions, Iridian, Muon Group, Mott, Micro-LAM) concentrates on materials science, optics and micro-precision components for semiconductor, life-science and space/defense markets. The Mott acquisition — IDEX's largest ever at roughly $982 million — explicitly targets semiconductor wafer fab equipment, energy transition and medical technologies.
