Microsoft Corporation acquired Whale Communications, a transaction announced in May 2006.
Whale Communications operates in Security, Access and Solutions Division, is based in Fort Lee, New Jersey (with offices in Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Israel, plus representation in France). Whale Communications provided secure-access products — SSL VPN, web application firewalls, endpoint security and its Intelligent Application Gateway — enabling remote access with deep content inspection and granular access control. Microsoft acquired it to complement its Windows Server and ISA Server secure-access offerings.
To complement Microsoft's existing secure-access solutions built around Windows Server and ISA Server, giving remote workers simplified access from more locations and both managed and unmanaged devices, integrated with Windows services such as Active Directory for policy-based access control.
