Softimage, based in Montreal, Quebec, was a leading developer of high-performance 2-D and 3-D computer-animation and visualization software used by film studios, broadcasters and game makers. Microsoft acquired Softimage in an all-stock deal to gain a strong presence in professional digital media and to bring high-end 3-D animation to Windows NT.
