Microsoft Corporation acquired Opalis Software, a transaction announced in December 2009.
Opalis Software operates in Server and Tools Division (System Center), is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Opalis Software made IT process automation (run-book automation) software used to orchestrate and automate datacenter workflows. Microsoft acquired it to strengthen System Center, later shipping the technology as System Center Orchestrator. The original TechNet announcement post is no longer reachable.
