npm operates in GitHub (sub-acquisition). npm operates the public npm registry, the package manager used by millions of developers in the JavaScript community. GitHub (a Microsoft subsidiary) acquired it to invest in registry infrastructure and improve the developer experience while keeping the public registry free and available.
