Dollar General Corporation acquired 41 Former Walmart Express Store Locations, a transaction completed in July 2016. The deal was a Asset purchase.
41 Former Walmart Express Store Locations operates in Small-box discount retail — store real estate and leases, is based in United States — 11 states, primarily rural markets. In July 2016 Dollar General purchased 41 former Walmart Express store locations spread across 11 states after Walmart wound down its small-format Express pilot. Most of the sites sit in rural markets near existing Dollar General stores, and the company planned to relocate roughly 40 of its current stores into the larger-format buildings and to run fueling stations at 37 of them. The acquired sites were slated for conversion to the Dollar General banner, with expanded offerings such as fresh meat and produce. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The purchase let Dollar General capture larger-format sites in rural markets it already served, using them as relocation targets for nearby existing stores and adding fuel retail at most locations.
