Apple acquired Primephonic, a classical-music streaming service known for search and browse tools optimized for classical repertoire, high-quality audio and expert recommendations. Apple said Primephonic features would be integrated into Apple Music and that it planned to launch a dedicated classical-music app the following year. Primephonic stopped taking new subscribers and went offline shortly after the deal, with existing subscribers offered free Apple Music. Terms were not disclosed. The acquisition led to the 2023 launch of Apple Music Classical.

Apple positioned the deal around a stated respect for classical music and an aim to deliver a best-in-class dedicated classical experience within Apple Music.
