Neven Vision operates in Photos / Picasa (computer vision). Google acquired the Neven Vision team, which specialized in automatically extracting information from photos, including detecting whether an image contains a person and, potentially, recognizing people, places, and objects. Google folded the expertise into Picasa to make searching and organizing personal photo collections easier, laying groundwork for later face- and image-recognition features.
