ALASKA AIR GROUP, INC. acquired Horizon Air.
Horizon Air operates in Regional air travel (feeder service), is based in United States (Pacific Northwest). Horizon Air is a Pacific Northwest-based regional carrier that had grown in the early 1980s through its own acquisitions of Air Oregon and Transwestern but struggled with the thin margins typical of the regional airline industry. In December 1986, Alaska Air Group acquired Horizon, giving the smaller carrier financial stability while providing Alaska with valuable regional feeder traffic connecting into its mainline network. Horizon has since operated as a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, and the two carriers pioneered innovations such as selling tickets online and offering online check-in.
Acquiring Horizon provided the regional carrier with financial stability while giving Alaska Air Group valuable regional feeder traffic into its mainline network.
