Dr. Waleed H. Hassanein, the founder of TransMedics, has served as the company's President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board since August 1998.

Prior to founding TransMedics, Inc., he completed a three-year cardiac surgery research fellowship at West Roxbury VA Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, and two years of general surgery residency at Georgetown University Medical Center.

He received an M.D. from Georgetown University in 1993, attended Cairo University School of Medicine from 1985 to 1989, and holds a General Certificate of Education from the University of London.
