Norfolk Southern Corp Leadership

Richard Anderson is the independent Board Chair of Norfolk Southern, having joined the board in 2024. His executive leadership in transportation spans more than two decades, including service as President and CEO of Amtrak (2017-2020), CEO and Executive Chairman of Delta Air Lines (2007-2016), and CEO of Northwest Airlines (2001-2004). He chairs the Executive Committee and also serves on the Audit and Finance and Compensation and Talent Management Committees.

William Clyburn, Jr. is founder and CEO of Clyburn Consulting, LLC and a former Vice-Chairman and Commissioner of the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (1998-2001). An engineer and lawyer, he brings roughly 30 years of legislative and regulatory experience in transportation, including prior roles as Senior Counsel and Commerce Counsel in the U.S. Senate. He serves on the Governance and Nominating and Safety Committees.

Admiral Philip S. Davidson (U.S. Navy, retired) is founder of Davidson Strategies, LLC and served as the 25th Commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (2018-2021) during a nearly 39-year Navy career. His military leadership informs board oversight of strategic planning, operations, risk management, and safety. He serves on the Audit and Finance and Safety Committees.

Francesca A. DeBiase is the former Executive Vice President and Global Chief Supply Chain Officer of McDonald's Corporation, where she spent about 20 years across supply chain, sustainability, and finance roles. She currently serves as a director of Sysco Corporation. At Norfolk Southern she chairs the Governance and Nominating Committee and serves on the Compensation and Talent Management and Executive Committees.

Marcela E. Donadio is a former Audit Partner and Americas Oil & Gas Sector Leader at Ernst & Young, LLP, where she spent 25 years as an audit partner. A Certified Public Accountant, she also serves on the boards of NOV Inc. and Freeport-McMoRan and previously was Lead Independent Director of Marathon Oil. She chairs Norfolk Southern's Audit and Finance Committee and serves on the Executive and Safety Committees.

Sameh Fahmy brings more than three decades in the railroad industry, most recently as Executive Vice President of Precision Scheduled Railroading at Kansas City Southern (2019-2021). He previously held senior engineering, mechanical, and supply-management roles at Canadian National Railway and served as a management consultant to CSX. He serves on the Audit and Finance and Safety Committees.

Mark R. George is President and Chief Executive Officer of Norfolk Southern, a role he assumed on September 11, 2024 after serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 2019 to 2024. He has more than 35 years of experience in financial management, strategy, and business development, including a long career in senior CFO roles across United Technologies Corporation businesses. He is a director of Trane Technologies and serves on Norfolk Southern's Executive Committee.

Heidi Heitkamp is a former U.S. Senator from North Dakota (2013-2019) and former North Dakota Attorney General and Tax Commissioner, and currently directs the University of Chicago Institute of Politics. A prominent rail-safety advocate following the 2013 Casselton derailment, she brings deep regulatory and governmental-relations experience. She serves on the Governance and Nominating and Safety Committees.

John C. Huffard, Jr. is co-founder of Tenable Holdings, Inc., where he served as President and Chief Operating Officer and helped build the cybersecurity company through its IPO. His technology, cybersecurity, finance, and executive experience supports board oversight of information technology and risk. He chairs Norfolk Southern's Compensation and Talent Management Committee and serves on the Executive and Governance and Nominating Committees.

Dr. Christopher T. Jones is a former Corporate Vice President and President of the Technology Services sector at Northrop Grumman Corporation (2013-2019) and a veteran of a 26-year U.S. Air Force career. His technology, operational-oversight, and safety experience underpins his leadership of the board's safety agenda. He chairs the Safety Committee and serves on the Audit and Finance and Executive Committees.

Gilbert H. Lamphere is Chairman of MidRail LLC and has nearly 40 years of experience as a principal investor, financier, and operating executive in the rail industry, including former board service at CSX, Canadian National Railway, and Florida East Coast Industries and as Chairman of Illinois Central Railroad. He was an early financial backer of precision scheduled railroading. He serves on the Audit and Finance and Compensation and Talent Management Committees.

Lori J. Ryerkerk is the former Chairman, CEO, and President of Celanese Corporation (2019-2024) and previously held senior manufacturing leadership roles at Shell, Hess, and ExxonMobil. She currently serves on the boards of Eaton Corp. and Cencora, Inc. and brings the perspective of a former large rail customer. She serves on the Compensation and Talent Management and Governance and Nominating Committees.

Jason A. Zampi is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Norfolk Southern, appointed CFO on September 24, 2024. He previously served as Senior Vice President Finance and Treasurer, Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis, and Vice President and Controller after joining the company's finance organization. He oversees the company's finance, treasury, and investor relations functions.

John F. Orr served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Norfolk Southern from March 20, 2024 until his good-reason resignation effective May 31, 2026, remaining a special advisor to the Board Chair thereafter. Before joining Norfolk Southern he was Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at Canadian Pacific Kansas City and Executive Vice President of Operations at Kansas City Southern, following more than three decades at Canadian National. He remained a named executive officer in the 2025 compensation disclosures.

Brian Barr was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Norfolk Southern effective June 1, 2026, having joined the company as Vice President and Chief Mechanical Officer in September 2024. He brings more than 28 years of railroading experience, with prior leadership roles at Union Pacific and CSX and an early career at Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail). As COO he oversees safety, transportation, network planning, engineering, and equipment maintenance.

Claude E. “Ed” Elkins, Jr. is Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Norfolk Southern, appointed to the role on December 1, 2021 after serving as Vice President Industrial Products. He leads the company's commercial organization across its merchandise, intermodal, and coal markets. He is one of Norfolk Southern's named executive officers.

Anil Bhatt is Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Digital Officer of Norfolk Southern, appointed on August 19, 2024. He joined from Elevance Health, where he served as Global Chief Information Officer and earlier as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He leads Norfolk Southern's technology infrastructure, security, and digital strategy.
