Mark S. Sutton is Kroger's independent Lead Director and serves as Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of International Paper Company until his retirement in 2024.
He joined International Paper in 1984 as an electrical engineer and held roles of increasing responsibility, including President and Chief Operating Officer before becoming CEO in 2014.
