Matthew J. Shattock is the Lead Independent Director of The Clorox Company. He has served as a Clorox director since August 2018, was the company's independent Board chair from February 2021 to December 2023, and became Lead Independent Director effective January 1, 2024, when CEO Linda Rendle was elected Board chair. He chairs the independent directors' executive sessions, acts as liaison with the CEO, and is a member of the Nominating, Governance and Corporate Responsibility Committee.
Shattock is a veteran consumer packaged goods executive. He served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Beam Suntory Inc. (formerly Beam Inc.), the world's third-largest premium spirits company, having joined Beam as President and CEO in 2009 and led the integration of the Beam and Suntory spirits businesses following Suntory Holdings' 2014 acquisition; he continued as non-executive chairman until December 2020. Earlier he spent six years in executive roles at Cadbury plc and sixteen years at Unilever. He holds an honours degree from Durham University and attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, having served as a tank troop commander in the British Army.
