J. Michael Evans has been Alibaba's president since August 2015 and a director since September 2014. He spent two decades at The Goldman Sachs Group, joining in 1993, becoming a partner in 1994, and serving as vice chairman from February 2008 until his retirement in December 2013; he also chaired Goldman's Asia operations from 2004 to 2013 and was global head of Growth Markets. During his Goldman career he held leadership roles including global head of equity capital markets and global co-head of the equities and securities businesses. Mr. Evans is a trustee of the Asia Society and a member of the Advisory Council for the Bendheim Center for Finance at Princeton University, from which he received a bachelor's degree in politics in 1981.
