Kay Krafft Co-Chairman of the Board

Kay Krafft is co-chairman of Afya's board of directors, a position he has held since May 2022, after having served as a director since August 2021. He is the founding CEO of the Bertelsmann Education Group, Afya's controlling shareholder group. Until 2014 he was an Executive Board member of the music-rights management company BMG. Before BMG he served as EVP and global head of M&A at Bertelsmann, where he implemented major portfolio adjustments, and prior to joining Bertelsmann he was a partner at the professional-services firm Deloitte.

Nicolau Carvalho Esteves Co-Chairman of the Board

Nicolau Carvalho Esteves is co-chairman of Afya's board of directors, a position he has held since May 2022 after serving as chairman since July 2019. A qualified orthopedist, he has over 25 years of experience in the education industry and was chairman of the board of Afya Brazil from August 2016 to December 2019. He is the founding shareholder of, and served as chief executive officer of, ITPAC (1999-2016), ITPAC Porto (2008-2016), IPTAN (2003-2016) and Instituto de Educacao Superior do Vale do Parnaiba (2016-2018). He holds a medicine degree from Faculdade de Medicina de Barbacena and master's degrees in business administration and corporate finance from FGV, Fundacao Dom Cabral and FEAD. He is the father of director Renato Tavares Esteves.

Benedikt Dalkmann has been a member of Afya's board of directors since May 2022 and is Chief Financial Officer of the Bertelsmann Education Group. He has played a formative role in developing the group since its founding in 2015, including the expansion of Relias into a major player in U.S. healthcare education through acquisitions and the establishment of an international presence. Before joining the Education Group he worked as Director of Strategy & Investments at the Bertelsmann Group. His earlier experience includes a period in venture capital at Holtzbrinck and in management consulting.

Christina Krebs Director

Christina Krebs has been a member of Afya's board of directors since December 2022 and is Chief People Officer of the Bertelsmann Education Group and Chief People Officer at Relias, a Bertelsmann Education Group company. Prior to 2020 she held multiple roles at Relias, including VP, Client Care and VP, Integration, where she helped integrate several healthcare-technology companies into the Relias portfolio. Before joining Relias she was a partner at the professional-services firm ScottMadden Management Consultants.

Renato Tavares Esteves has been a member of Afya's board of directors since July 2019 and was a member of the board of Afya Brazil from August 2016 to December 2019. He served as an executive officer of several of the group's founding institutions, including Instituto de Educacao Superior do Vale do Parnaiba, UNIVACO, IPTAN, ITPAC and IESP. He holds a degree in medicine from Faculdade de Medicina de Barbacena and a master's degree in business administration and corporate finance from FGV. He is the son of co-chairman Nicolau Carvalho Esteves.

Joao Paulo Seibel de Faria Independent Director

Joao Paulo Seibel de Faria has been a member of Afya's board of directors and of its audit, risks and ethics committee since August 2020, and serves as chairman of the audit committee. He has been CFO of Ericsson Latin America since 2024. He has 30 years of experience at companies including Arthur Andersen, Ericsson Telecomunicacoes, Microsoft, Didi Chuxing, OLX and Patria Investments, spending 18 years at Microsoft in leadership roles across Latin America and the U.S. in sales, marketing and finance, including as chief financial officer in Brazil. He holds a bachelor's degree in business management from FAAP and an Executive MBA from Insper.

Vanessa Claro Lopes Independent Director

Vanessa Claro Lopes has been a member of Afya's board of directors and its audit, risks and ethics committee since July 2019. She has over 30 years of experience in corporate governance, internal controls and auditing. She currently serves as an independent director and audit-committee chair at Rumo S.A. and Americanas S.A., audit-committee chair at Tegma Gestao Logistica S.A., and a member of the audit and ethics committee at AXIA Energia (Eletrobras Group). Earlier she served on the audit committee of Embraer S.A., chaired the fiscal council of Via Varejo, and sat on the fiscal councils of Gerdau, Terra Santa Agro, Estacio, Renova Energia, Cosan, Cosan Logistica and Comgas. She held key executive roles including Head of Internal Audit at TAM S.A. and Globex Utilidades (Grupo Pao de Acucar) and Audit Manager at Grupo Telefonica, beginning her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1995.

Miguel Filisbino Pereira de Paula Independent Director

Miguel Filisbino Pereira de Paula has been a member of Afya's board of directors and its audit, risks and ethics committee and People & ESG Committee since August 2020, and chairs the People & ESG Committee. He has over 30 years of experience in C-level positions and on advisory boards and boards of large companies such as Gerdau, Votorantim Cimentos, Yduqs and GPA (Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao). An expert in the education industry, he was Vice President of People, Management and Services for nine years at Estacio Participacoes S.A. and serves as an operating partner in people-management and governance for private-equity funds including portfolio companies of Crescera Capital and EB Capital. He currently sits on the boards of Gurgel Mix (Loja do Mecanico), Salus Group and Hospital CARE (as observer).

Marcelo Ken Suhara Independent Director

Marcelo Ken Suhara has been a member of Afya's board of directors and its audit, risks and ethics committee since June 2023, and is considered an audit-committee financial expert as defined by the SEC. He has a combined 26 years of experience in IPO advisory services, financial reporting, accounting and audit. He was a partner in the capital-markets center at Ernst & Young in Sao Paulo from 2011 to March 2022, worked in the capital-markets group at PricewaterhouseCoopers from 2001 to 2010, and in audit at Arthur Andersen from 1998 to 2000 and Coopers & Lybrand from 1996 to 1998. He is a Brazilian Certified Accountant registered with the CRC.

Virgilio Deloy Capobianco Gibbon Chief Executive Officer

Virgilio Deloy Capobianco Gibbon has served as Chief Executive Officer of Afya since 2016 and led the company's Initial Public Offering on Nasdaq in 2019. He was honored by the United Nations as an Impact Leader for the Sustainable Development Goals and, in 2023, was named Best Executive in the Education Sector in Brazil by Valor 1000. Prior to Afya he was Chief Operating Officer at YDUQS (formerly Estacio Participacoes) from March 2010 to March 2012 and its Chief Financial Officer from March 2012 to June 2016. He was Executive Director of Business Consulting and Education Industry at TOTVS from October 2007 to December 2009 and a Senior Manager of Business Consulting at Accenture from 2000 to 2007. He holds a degree in economics from PUC-RJ and completed executive programs at FGV, Stanford and Harvard.

Luis Andre Carpintero Blanco Chief Financial Officer

Luis Andre Blanco has been Chief Financial Officer of Afya since May 2020. Before joining Afya he served as CFO of OdontoPrev for 10 years, overseeing corporate finance, treasury, financial planning, M&A, tax and accounting operations, legal and compliance. Earlier he was a Financial Officer at Vivo S.A. from 2003 to 2009 and CFO at Tele Centro-Oeste Celular Participacoes from 2000 to 2003. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and an executive-program degree from the University of Westminster, London.

Lelio de Souza Junior Vice President of Medical Practice Solutions

Lelio de Souza Junior has been Afya's Vice President of Medical Practice Solutions since January 2022. Before joining Afya he was CEO of Intelie for five years, where he supported the company's internationalization and its acquisition by RigNet (later acquired by Viasat). Earlier he served as a Corporate Officer at TOTVS from 2008 to 2016 and as a Senior Manager at Accenture from 2000 to 2008. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and completed executive programs at Wharton and Insper.
